A NEW GENERATION OF POP-UP SHOPPING

SHOP/SLOW is a pop-up store featuring local emerging designers from 19-25 February. Located in Ponsonby Central, Auckland, the store will highlight nine brands including;

Blue Blank, Courtney Pellow, Elisabeth Kwan, No Work To Do, Ryan Turner and Jason Lingard. Showcasing their artisan clothing and accessories, Shop/Slow is a natural

recreation to modern day over-consumption and fast-fashion. "The idea to hold a pop-up grew from our desire to support each other and encourage local creativity and

ethically-made products," said designer Jason Lingard. "Getting together as a group and having pop-ups like this means we can test our products, meet our customers face-to

face while gaining valuable feedback and exposure."

REDEFINING DESIGN

Zakk d’Larté sat down with Auckland-based Māori designer Ryan Turner ahead of the upcoming New Zealand Fashion Week.

Inspired by androgynous European and Japanese styles, Turner’s designs originate from the combination of these two opposing cultures. His label offers unisex clothing and

apparel to people of all genders, age and size.

“One of my goals is to redefine gender roles set by modern society,” he says, “and offer new and innovative garments that push the boundaries of commercial fashion, whilst

maintaining a high level of comfort and functionality.”

Androgynous fashion has featured strongly on the local and international runways the past few seasons and Turner delivers his own version of it.

Independent Fashion Celebrated at Mid.

Mid. brought five independent fashion brands together for a runway event which was billed as a 'mid-season collaborative fashion show' in West Auckland recently.  The show

featured labels Pinch & Punch, Jojo Ross, Ryan Turner, Petra Benton and Jason Lingard who are all small, independent brands, many of whom are in their first couple of

seasons of ready to wear production. There is something particularly exciting about seeing fresh talent and new ideas on the runway so there was a full house gathered for the

show at Arkade Hire in Avondale.

The Mid Fashion Show 2016

Held at Arkade Hire on June 1st, the Mid Fashion Show launched collections by some of Auckland’s most talented and up and coming designers. The crowd was treated to a stunning display of varying aesthetics, looks and styles, all with a clearly distinctive vision and all locally (New Zealand) made.

There were five amazing designers that showcased their collections on the night: Pinch & Punch, Jojo Ross, Ryan Turner, Petra Benton and Jason Lingard.
